Tuck

Our dear, sweet little kitty, Tuck, passed away two weeks ago. As many of you know, Joe and I loved the little guy so much and it has been such a hard time for all of us (including his kitty sister, Maxie, who is so confused and upset). Tuck came down with a terrible virus in his spinal cord and he quickly went downhill. We miss Tuck so much!

August 2007

MN summers are HOT!! Here is our favorite beach--La Playa Zimsen-Campe (our backyard!)

My friend, Andrea, and I went with our two little boys to a breastfeeding gathering of women who were trying to beat the Guiness Book of World Records for the most women to breastfeed all at the same time. This was happening all around the world-- I'm not sure if we broke the record, but it was a hoot!

Oh-- Did I mention that I quit my job? I'll be staying at home now with Kai and doing some daycare. One of the kids who I'll be watching is Soren who is in this photo with Kai. Soren is 3 days older than Kai. I'm lucky to be able to watch Kai's best friend. It will be fun for them to play together. Just recently, Kai has been reaching out to "kiss" people. He is a true sweetheart.

Family Photos

Here are a few photos of Joe's family-- The first photo is of Emma Rose, Bailey, Rosie, Kai, and Joe. Rosie is Joe's twin sister and Emma and Bailey are two of her daughters (she has 5 children and the 6th is on its way!)

The next photo is with Grandma Susie. Then, the next photo is on a pier in Seattle with Kai, Abbey, and Reba. Abbey and Reba are two more of Rosie's daughters. Then, finally, Kai and Emma are snoozing in their car seats at the end of a busy day!

Swimming in Seattle

We stayed at Joe's Aunt Mary and Uncle Jerry's house and they have a pool! You can see, by the photos, that Kai is a water baby!

Seattle July 2007

After our visit with Seattle friends, we spent a week with Joe's family up in the mountains and then celebrating at Joe's Dad's 70th Birthday Party. It was Kai's first time meeting his aunts and uncles and all of his cousins. It was also Kai's first time traveling and he did wonderfully.

Seattle July 2007

I can't believe I haven't posted anything in over a month! Here are photos from our trip to Seattle. At the start of our trip, we visited with Jen Costigan and her family and had so much fun. The first photo is of Kai eating at a table just his size! He loves solid foods and loved Jen's little chair and table even more. The second photo is of bath time with Jen's son, Will, who just turned three.

Auntie Brini

(By the way, I have no idea why this image is so small-- I tried and tried to make it a normal size-- really, I did, Sabrina!)

Sabrina flew into town from Uganda, West Africa to meet lil' Kai (and to see pregnant Ally too!)-- Here are some photos.

Todd Smith

Joe's close friend from college, Todd Smith, came to Minneapolis after the reunion weekend to hang out with us. We didn't want him to leave! He is an incredible guy and Kai was madly in love with him. Some days, Todd was the only one who could get Kai to sleep. Check out Todd's photography website. We are lucky that we had a professional photographer capturing Kai moments.

Grinnell Reunion

We went back to Grinnell College for Joe's 15th reunion. We had a great visit! Kai was a superstar, hanging out with everyone and winning the cutest and sweetest baby award. Here is Kai all decked out like a big guy.

Thank God for slings-- we love this sling.

It took us over 7 hours to get home (it's a 4 1/2 hour drive). Kai had some alternative plans for us-- including walking in the rain up a country road.

Papi and Kai

Ok, so Joe and I came home from bringing Kai to the doctor. Joe was changing Kai's diaper. I came upstairs and found Joe wearing this pirate eye patch. He had taken it from the doctor's office (where they use it for eye exams) and was running around entertaining Kai with his pirate accent. Haven't heard it yet? You better ask Joe to enertain you someday!

We love this bam-bam leopard caveman outfit for Kai. Joe and Kai are showing their cavemen stuff!

Joe and Kai at Kai's first rock concert (Ok, so it was a kid's concert at our favorite bookstore, Wild Rumpus)

Here we are just this week at Hidden Falls Park in St. Paul. We try to go have a picnic at least once a week-- it's a fun way to get outside and let Kai roll around on his blanket. This is the park where I saw a goat on a leash!
